Circularity Gap 2025 urges swift circular economy transition
Report highlights strategic opportunities for companies adopting circular practices
The Circularity Gap Report 2025, developed by the Circle Economy Foundation in collaboration with Deloitte, presents the most recent and alarming overview of the state of global circularity. Launched at the World Circular Economy Forum in São Paulo, the report reveals that the world is now only 6.9% circular — a regression from previous years. This widening “circularity gap” underlines the urgency of transitioning to more regenerative and sustainable economic systems.
The Circularity Gap Reporting Initiative has, since 2018, delivered annual assessments that serve as a global barometer for circular progress. Its methodology offers decision-makers – from governments to private enterprises – the tools to measure, monitor, and implement effective circular strategies. This 2025 edition calls for intensified, collective action from policymakers, industries, and communities to close the gap and reduce our ecological footprint.
The report emphasizes that businesses that act early in adopting circular models stand to benefit through increased resilience, reduced waste, and innovation in value chains. These competitive advantages are becoming increasingly relevant in a global economy that must adapt to resource constraints and environmental challenges.
To support this transformation, the CGR Initiative also offers the CGR Dashboard — the world’s most comprehensive open-access database for circular economy insights. This tool combines metrics, interactive visuals, and case studies from various sectors and countries, enabling stakeholders to assess material flows and benchmark performance.
With over 50,000 downloads across 18 published reports, the CGR Initiative is a key reference for advancing circularity globally. As highlighted by the Circle Economy Foundation, scaling the transition requires both data and cooperation – and the 2025 Report offers a clear roadmap for action.
