European Commission Presents Results of High-Level Dialogue with the Automotive Industry
As part of its participation in the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), AIDA CCI shares the results of the high-level dialogue between the European Commission and the European automotive industry, which took place on April 8, 2025, in Lisbon. The meeting focused on a coordinated response to the new customs tariffs imposed by the United States.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, met with industry leaders to discuss the impact of tariffs applied to European cars, components, and commercial vehicles.
Supply Chains and Competitiveness in Focus
Industry representatives expressed serious concerns about the economic and strategic impact of the new tariffs. The risk of trade flow diversion and the uncertainty created in the transatlantic integrated supply chains, which are essential for the sector’s business models, were highlighted.
The importance of a mutual reduction of tariffs through a negotiated solution was emphasized, as well as the need to eliminate non-tariff barriers that affect the competitiveness of European companies.
Reinforcing the Action Plan for the Automotive Sector
The industry encouraged the European Commission to accelerate the implementation of the Action Plan for the Automotive Sector. The goal is to strengthen the agenda for innovation, sustainability, and digitalization, promoting a more resilient industry prepared for global challenges.
