Portugal Expo 2025
Portugal is taking part in Expo 2025 Osaka with a Pavilion that reflects the country’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and ocean preservation. Under the theme “Ocean, the Blue Dialogue”, the national participation in the world exhibition promotes the strategic value of the sea for the Portuguese economy, highlighting initiatives in blue bioeconomy, aquaculture, fish processing, robotics, and ocean digitalization.
With a comprehensive 184-day programme, the Pavilion hosts exhibitions, cultural, scientific, and business events that reinforce the historical ties between Portugal and Japan, established nearly 500 years ago across the Pacific Ocean. The main exhibition is divided into two key areas: “Sharing Knowledge” and “Partnering for a Sustainable Future”, offering an immersive and educational experience on the challenges and opportunities of the blue economy.
Designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, the building stands out for its use of sustainable materials such as suspended ropes and recycled nets, creating an aesthetic environment inspired by ocean movement. Located strategically in the “Empowering Lives” zone, the structure promotes circular economy principles and reduced carbon footprint.
Beyond the exhibition area, the Pavilion includes the Mar de Portugal restaurant, celebrating Portuguese cuisine with iconic ingredients such as codfish, octopus, olive oil, and custard tarts. The commercial area features eco-friendly Portuguese design products with Atlantic identity, such as cork, burel, and ocean economy-related items.
