Portugal in the spotlight at AdditƐD 2025 with innovative additive manufacturing solutions
The INOV.AM Agenda was present at AdditƐD 2025, an international trade fair dedicated to additive manufacturing, held from June 3 to 5 in Bilbao, Spain. A total of 11 technological demonstrators developed under the Mobilizing Agenda were showcased, reinforcing Portugal’s potential in industrial additive manufacturing innovation.
Portugal’s participation was coordinated by the AIDA CCI – Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Aveiro District, which organized a national collective stand located in Pavilion 3 (C16), bringing together companies, research centers, and higher education institutions in a shared space to promote national science, technology, and industry.
Portuguese innovation in focus
Throughout the event, meetings were held and connections made with various international companies and technology centers interested in the disruptive solutions showcased. Highlights included:
- 5G Mold – Smart production tool with integrated sensors and connection to artificial intelligence systems.
- Natural-based filament – Sustainable thermoplastic materials aligned with circular economy principles.
- Aerospace components – Lightweight and durable parts developed through computational optimization and additive manufacturing.
- Orthoses – Personalized biomedical solution focused on user comfort.
- INOV.AM Academy – Advanced training program in Industry 4.0.
- Ceramic parts – Produced using stoneware, faience, porcelain, stone powder, red clay, and glass.
- Materials for construction and design – Gypsum mortars and cork products printed with a polymer matrix.
- 3D-printed food – Edibles made from fruit, vegetables, and algae printed through additive manufacturing processes.
Internationalization as a strategic vector
The AICEP, represented by Dr. Joana Neves (Director of the Delegation in Spain), visited the Agenda’s stand and highlighted the importance of internationalization in enhancing national investment in innovation, stating: “It is essential to develop robust and innovative PPS within the Mobilizing Agendas, but all this effort will be in vain if conditions are not created for these products and technologies to effectively reach the markets.”
Among the demonstrators that drew the most attention were projects from Work Packages WP20 and WP16, which explore the innovative use of cork and glass in additive manufacturing – an approach considered surprising by many visitors.
European funding and strategic vision
The INOV.AM Agenda has a total eligible budget of €76,952,903.21, of which €53,267,360.63 is funded by the NextGenerationEU initiative. The project runs from July 1, 2022, to December 31, 2025, aiming to position Portugal as a European leader in the additive manufacturing sector.
