The Microelectronics Agenda was developed with an integrated approach aligned with the European initiative IPCEI on Microelectronics and Communications Technologies, addressing structural challenges to unlock the potential of the microelectronics industry and deliver added value to European society. Through scientific and technological investments, the project aims to strengthen the production and innovation capacity of the national semiconductor industry.
This initiative responds to Europe’s need to overcome systemic failures in the global semiconductor market.
The agenda, approved under the Business Innovation Agendas of the RRP, and led by ATEP – AMKOR Technology Portugal, brings together 17 partners, including entities from the National Scientific and Technological System (SCTN), companies, and business associations. The project addresses European challenges such as the consolidation of chip production, the digital transition, and the green transition.
The main strategic objectives of the Microelectronics Agenda include:
- Enabling sector entities to meet the challenges of this technological market through productive investments and the development of new technologies, processes, and systems;
- Promoting the sector’s digitalisation by adopting Industry 4.0 technologies and fostering the growth of new communication technologies;
- Fostering collaboration between research centres, companies, and organisations to bring together the necessary skills and innovation;
- Focusing on greater sustainability by reducing the sector’s ecological footprint;
- Promoting training in key skills, enhancing competitiveness, and creating qualified jobs.
The AIDA CCI – Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Aveiro District, sub-leader of Work Package 17 – Internationalisation, plays an active role in disseminating and promoting results through actions within Work Package 20, highlighting the capabilities of the Portuguese microelectronics industry in R&D, component design, and manufacturing.
The actions include:
- Development of a strategic plan for communication and marketing to enter target markets such as North America, Germany, and France;
- International press relations and promotion of agenda results in media outlets;
- Creation of an international promotional landing page;
- Participation in international events such as trade fairs and specialised microelectronics conferences;
- Organisation of workshops and reverse trade missions.
This agenda covers innovative projects focused on technological and production capacity building, as well as the Digital and Sustainable Transformation of the sector, with broad international dissemination.
