Portugal Features 4 Strategic Projects in EU Critical Raw Materials List
As part of its participation in the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), AIDA CCI announces that the European Commission has selected four Portuguese projects (three lithium and one copper) to join the list of 47 EU strategic projects. The aim is to strengthen autonomy in the supply of critical raw materials essential for the green and digital transition.
A Commitment to Industrial Autonomy and Resilience
This initiative falls under the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA), which sets ambitious targets for 2030:
- Ensure 10% of extraction within the EU.
- Secure 40% of processing and transformation.
- Achieve 25% recycling of annual strategic raw material consumption.
The selected projects will strengthen the European value chain, promote innovation in defense and aerospace, and contribute decisively to economic decarbonization.
Portugal’s Role in European Strategy
The selection of these projects confirms Portugal’s strategic potential in the exploration and valuation of mineral resources. The country thus positions itself as a key player in ensuring Europe’s technological and industrial sovereignty.
