UK Extended CE Marking Recognition Until 2024
The Enterprise Europe Network informs that the UK government has announced an extension of the recognition of the CE marking and the “3” (reversed epsilon) marking until December 31, 2024, for goods placed on the market or put into service in the United Kingdom.
Companies can also opt for the UKCA marking, providing flexibility in selecting which certification to apply. This package of measures aims to offer businesses greater flexibility in adapting to the new UKCA regime while reducing regulatory burdens.
The UK government intends to leverage its regulatory autonomy to assist businesses in tackling current global economic and supply chain challenges, prioritizing economic growth. Additionally, legislation is expected to be introduced to enforce measures announced in June 2022, in line with the CE recognition extension.
Key Regulatory Updates
These measures aim to:
✔ Reduce labeling costs by allowing businesses to affix the UKCA marking and include importer information for products from EEA countries (and in some cases, Switzerland) on a document or label until December 31, 2027.
✔ Lower new testing costs for UKCA certification, enabling CE conformity assessment activities conducted until December 31, 2024, to be used as the basis for UKCA marking until the certificate expires or until December 31, 2027, whichever comes first.
Sector-Specific Regulations
Different rules apply to:
- Medical devices
- Construction products
- Cableway installations
- Transportable pressure equipment
- Unmanned aircraft systems
- Railway products
- Marine equipment
