Business Digital Wallet Launched in Portugal
AIDA CCI informs that Portugal has become the first European Union country to launch the Business Digital Wallet. This new feature, integrated into the gov.pt app, allows business owners to carry their company documentation on their smartphones with full legal validity.
The initiative, presented at the Palácio da Bolsa in Porto, aligns with the European eIDAS 2.0 Regulation and anticipates the future ‘European Business Wallet’, promoting dematerialization and cross-border interoperability.
The core objective is to simplify business operations, reducing the need to access multiple portals or carry physical paper for basic administrative acts.
Which documents are available?
In this first phase, the application allows free and immediate access to four documents essential for daily activities:
- Company Card: Digital identification of the entity.
- Contribution Status Declaration: Status regarding Social Security.
- Tax Situation Certificate: Status regarding the Tax Authority.
- RCBE: Proof of the Central Register of Beneficial Owners.
How does it work and what is the cost?
Using the Business Digital Wallet is free of charge for the current features. Access is granted through the Digital Mobile Key (Chave Móvel Digital), ensuring high levels of security and strong authentication.
The information displayed comes directly from official Public Administration sources and holds the same legal value as documents obtained through traditional channels. Therefore, the smartphone becomes sufficient for opening bank accounts, picking up orders, or responding to inspections.
Future Features (Roadmap)
According to the Agency for State Modernization (ARTE), the tool will evolve in phases. New services are planned for the future:
- Qualified electronic signature in the context of business representation;
- Access to the Permanent Commercial Certificate;
- SME certifications and Sole Trader (ENI) profiles;
- Tax alert system and notifications of contribution deadlines;
- Consultation and direct participation in public tenders.
